To all of you who claim that you can’t dress as stylishly during the winter because of the brutal temperatures, I challenge you to take a cue from this pattern-clad Fashionista. Her ensemble is neither boring nor safe due to her smart choice of accessories, which she paired with a quirky yet classic coat.
The oversized polka-dot pattern of this Fashionista’s outerwear made her easy to spot (no pun intended) on a day when it seemed that every other NYU student had swaddled themselves in cocoons of quilted black jackets. It’s cream and black palette, along with its classic peacoat shape allowed the coat to make a statement that wasn’t overly playful or loud and also accommodated other patterned and textured accessories flawlessly.
As someone who needs to update her shoe wardrobe (aside from rain boots, the only flats I own are velvet maroon booties) I definitely had shoe envy when I spotted this Fashionista’s brown leather and navy heeled oxfords. With a subtle shine and heel small enough to wear all day long without dying, her shoes were perfect for any active New Yorker who desires style and comfort with a vintage-looking twist.
To match the era emitted by her shoes, this Fashionista chose a floral print and leather bag, which she informed me was thrifted for a mere three bucks! A purse with such a loud pattern would usually be paired with a relatively tame outfit, but in this case it is the factor that ties elements from the entire outfit together. Its light cream hue pulls in the dots on the coat, while the brown leather and dark flowers mimic the colors and texture of her shoes.
A bag is something that everyone uses year round, so why not make a bold choice and choose one that is patterned. On those frigid winter days when all you can do is follow suit and cozy up to your black puffer coat, at least you will have one item that still lets people know that you know fashion.
Spotted: Just Cavalli sent an amazing pattern and texture-filled autumn/winter 2013 collection down the runway in Milan last week, complete with boldly printed clutches and bags.
