I have never been a fan of monochromatic outfits. In a world full of colors like crimson, spearmint and fuchsia, who has time to choose just one? Plus, it’s generally not the most flattering of looks. However, if I hadn’t learned that black was an exception by now, this Fashionista definitely got the idea through my head.
When it comes to accessories, the idea of a head-to-toe black ensemble is actually genius. Without several conflicting shades of orange and blue going on, you can load on the extras and let those little details, which may otherwise fall through the cracks, shine. My favorite part of this Fashionista’s look is the bracelets she piled on both of her wrists. For me, it’s a breath of fresh air. With so many beautiful statement necklaces and earrings out there, I think we often forget how much personality throwing on a few bangles and a cuff can add.
If you want to jumpstart your bracelet collection, my advice would be to start with the basics. Amrita Singh has great sets of bangles in your basic silver and gold that can be paired with just about anything. They’re great for stacking, but also work really well on their own for days when you want to keep things simpler. Once you have your base metal, I would move on to a material with some texture, like leather. Chan Luu’s wrap bracelets are out of this world beautiful and come in every color of the rainbow. Choose one with a little sparkle for an eye-catching factor. From there, go with a thick cuff or a delicate little piece for a little size contrast.
Moral of the story: When stacking your wrists, the best advice is to not think about it too much. Mix gold with silver, gems with leather and every color you can imagine. The point is not to create a perfectly put together look, but to add a little personality and spunk into your accessories. My bracelets are a collection from my entire life up until this point and each time I wear them they reveal a little bit of who I am. As you Fashionistas jet around the world, or even just around campus, pick up little pieces of arm candy as you go. No one else may understand, but every time you look down at your hands you’ll remember everywhere you’ve been.
