Ever since I was little, playing “dress-up” has always been a favorite pastime. Now, it’s simply less tiaras and feather boas and more high heels and leather. However, one thing that hasn’t changed is my love of self-expression through style. With every changing season and new semester comes a new opportunity to try emerging trends.
Along with an avid interest in fashion, I’m also a foodie who enjoys painting, decorating and traveling. While most of my fashion influences have arisen from spending time in cities like Paris, London and New York, I also look to iconic styles from the past. Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot defined classic fashion and their inspiration is timeless.
I truly believe that there is a clear distinction between fashion and style. Style tends to be more long-term while fashion is constantly evolving. Incorporating chic, classic pieces with an up and coming trend is always fun. I also love combining different textures into outfits to create a unique look. I think girly, soft pieces mixed with fun, structured accessories make for interesting ensembles. Further, I love mixing investment pieces with less expensive, “trendy” basics. Last, I feel that one can never go wrong with keeping it classic. A little black dress can go a long way with the right accessories.
Most importantly, I believe that everyone must tell their own story through what they wear. Self-expression is extremely important and what better way to express yourself than through your personal style?
As a senior ready to graduate in the spring, I’m extremely excited to be a part of such a wonderful group of Style Gurus and look forward to sharing with you my STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK!
