STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: A Color For All Seasons

From the Editor

Mid-February is always an odd time for fashion. On one hand, you are sick of your winter wardrobe and the thought of wearing what was once your favorite V-neck sweater makes you physically nauseous. Bring on the mini skirts and tank tops, right? Not so fast. Because a part of you just watched hours of fashion shows livestreaming from Fashion Week and you can’t wait to wear the fall 2013 trends… like right now. Oh, the inner turmoil! If only there was a look that was practical for all seasons…

Alas, this Fashionista proves that the right pieces in your wardrobe can span across seasons! The chambray shirt has been a fan favorite amongst Fashionistas and Fashionistos for some time now. The casual top pairs well with just about anything, including skinny jeans, like this Fashionista illustrates, or denim cut-offs for when the temperature rises in a few weeks.

But perhaps the article of clothing that transcends seasons the best is the color skinny jean. While some colors are best reserved for warmer weather, the purple hue of this Fashionista’s pair is a great option for year round wear. The richness of the color is dark enough for those remaining cold, winter days. A great cold weather look would be to pair these jeans with a black chunky sweater and leather boots. However, when the weather gets warmer, the purple is a softer alternative to black. In the springtime, this color would look equally great with an oversized white tank and platform sandals. Two seasons. Two different looks. Same great pair of denim.

This week, look through your closet and find those pieces that will go from winter to spring and back to fall with you. It is those pieces that you should begin to build you wardrobe around. And don’t just stick to neutral colors in those pieces, either. As this Fashionista illustrates, purple is a color for all seasons.
