Growing up in Chicago, I know a thing or two about cold weather. It is the “Windy City” after all. (So what if “windy” referred to the politicians rather then the climate…) For as long as I can remember, my dad would always sport a black beanie when the weather got chilly. As a kid, I always make comments about how I thought that hat made him look like he was about to rob a bank. Oh tweens!
But perhaps my dad was just ahead of his time; as beanies have been a fashion force to be reckoned with for some time now. Instead of looking like a robber, beanies are the instant cool girl accessory. The knit material not only keeps you warm against biting winter winds, but they are the fashion cheery on top of a chic ensemble. Take this Fashionista for example. Creepers? Check. Oversized chain bag? Check. Skirt over torn jeans? Check and check! The deep turquoise beanie simply pulls all these great elements together and unifies the look.
Even better? They make day old blow outs look instantly chic. Score one for dirty hair!
Spotted: Good news, Fashionista/os! Beanies aren’t going anywhere in the foreseeable future. BCBGMAXAZRIA paired beanies with everything from leather coats to fur vest to tunics to evening gowns in their recent fall/winter 2013 runway show.
