ACCESSORIES REPORT: Back to Black

From the Editor, Style Advice of the Week

I am all about embracing a new trend. Florals, prints, polka-dots, plaid, neon, pastels. I am not afraid to dabble in a new color or pattern in the name of fashion. But, at the end of day, all I really want to wear is one color: black. Black is timeless. It transcends seasons, climates and occasions.

This Fashionista is also a fan of this dark hue. Wearing head-to-toe black, the look is simple, which allows the accessories to take center stage. There are two black accessories that every Fashionista should have: the perfect bag and ballet flats.

I personally have been on hunt for the perfect black bag for weeks now. This Fashionista’s satchel had me all types of envious. It is the perfect size—large enough to throw your daily essentials with while still small enough as to not be overwhelming. The clean lines and rectangular shape allows the bag to be a staple in this Fashionista’s wardrobe for seasons to come. When looking for a classic, black bag, I suggest following in the footsteps of this Fashionista and opting for a style that can take you just about anywhere. The Alexander Wang Tri-Fold Bag is currently on the top of my list. It is cross-body, which is great for a day full of class, errands and study sessions. It is large enough to fit your makeup bag, keys and iPhone in without feeling constrained by space or fashion. The lizard-embossed leather also dresses it up, making it a great option to take from day to night. Plus it has a removable strap so it is an instant clutch as well. Who doesn’t love a good two-for-one, right?

Moving onto to must-have footwear, this Fashionista was spot-on by sporting black, leather ballet flats. Tory Burch, Delman and Jenni Kayne are always fan favorites when it comes to black flats. When worn with tights, like this Fashionista, the look is perfect for a brisk winter afternoon. However, as the weather gets a little warmer, there is no need to store your flats. Wear them into summer with skinny jeans for a completely different look. Another two-for-one. How about that?!

The best part of her complete look? It is appropriate for just about anywhere. Whether she is heading to an internship, class or a night out with friends, the right black ensemble should be your ace in the whole.

Spotted: One of my favorite looks from fall 2013 New York Fashion Week was this look from the 3.1 Phillip Lim show. From the black gladiator boots to the structured black tote, Lim knows that all a Fashionista really wants in life are amazing black accessories.
