ACCESSORIES REPORT: Sweetly Simple

Accessories Report

We finally see and feel the sunshine in Ames, Iowa! Hip, hip hooray! Everyone is so excited about the warmer weather; we are seeing all sorts of different ensembles on campus. No more puffy coats, mittens and hats. But even though everyone is ditching the layers, we have to keep in mind it is still winter in Iowa.

This Fashionista threw a corduroy vest over her plain white top to keep the chill away. The corduroy fabric is thick enough to block the breeze, yet still looks fabulous. This specific vest is also an eye catcher because of the floral print. If you like floral print, why not try a pair of floral print jeans or shoes?

To top her outfit off she added a striped scarf. Mixing prints and patterns has been a huge hit in the past year. With spring around the corner, this would be a perfect way to spice up your new outfits. Just venture into your closets and try to mix and match with stuff that you already have.

Really like this Fashionista’s scarf? Why not make one yourself? Put it on your DIY list. First, purchase a cheap 100% cotton striped XL T-shirt. Next, cut the T-shirt into strips; the strips can be the same width or you can mix it up. Depending on how talented you are, you can either sew the strips together or just tie them. If you really want to get creative, you can try to braid some of the strips, or even add in a contrasting print or color to really spice things up.

This Fashionista did not over accessorize with jewelry, but her choice of throwing on a simple gold watch is exquisite. She gives off an attentive look by choosing a watch instead of a bracelet. A watch will show others that you care about time and (hopefully) stay on task. Every student should want their peers to at least “think” they are on task. This Fashionista also color-coordinated her nail polish with her vest. This little detail gives her entire ensemble a more aesthetic look.

Like the other Fashionistas/os on campus, I can rarely find one without some sort of bag. Bags continue to add style to an ensemble, and are also useful on campus or whenever you are out and about. This particular Fashionista has a cross-body bag. Due to the medium size you cannot carry that much in it, but it is convenient if you are on the run or have a long walk to campus.

Once again, don’t forget to smile! You never know who is looking your way.
