I have to admit, I was the first to bash the wedge sneaker trend. I can be pretty eccentric but that was just too far out of my realm. I’m happy to admit I’ve recently had a change of heart.
With one look at this Fashionista, how could you not? When you think heels, naturally the first things that comes to mind are dresses and skirts. Although a lot of us wear heels to class, they’re most commonly used to dress-up; or, even better, to give you that unexplainable confidence you get when you slide into the perfect pair of pretty pumps. So when the wedge sneaker was introduced it was a much more difficult trend to swallow. After a slow start, they’re spreading like wildfire now. If you’ve been following the street style fashion of New York Fashion Week you’re probably already picking out a pair for yourself.
“I feel like I could run a mile,” she joked when I asked her about her enticing shoes. Is it me or is this the answer to our prayers, girls? A heel, that’s acceptable for weekends, class, pretty much any occasion you could think of and it’s incredibly comfortable. There’s an endless amount of perks to the sneaker wedge. They give you a confidence boost, literally with a few inches. They don’t dress you up too much for those times you may feel out of place in heels. They’re COMFORTABLE and they’re absolutely adorable. Undoubtedly they’re soon to be a necessity to all Fashionistas. A little hidden secret to them as well is how they blend so well. You have to take a double take to notice if they’re heels, therefore they secretly elongate your legs. Remind me again why I don’t have a pair yet?
My favorite part of this Fashionista’s look is how she took the dressed down idea of a wedged sneaker, placed it with a graphic T-shirt and an American staple, a blue jean shirt to make it casual yet cute class attire. Even better, you could say she matches her environment. Being in the city there’s a huge urban atmosphere, you’ll find yourself lost if you don’t have a few graphic T-shirts. And yet with her sneaker wedges, she fits the Temple campus, considering walking from the neighborhoods to class isn’t always the shortest trip. Especially if you’re an explorer, it’s always a struggle to find a comfortable yet stylish shoe to trek around the city in. This may just be the most fashionable yet functional accessory of the year. If I didn’t sell you on a pair of sneaker shoes by the end of this article then I don’t know what will.
Spotted: DKNY debuted the sneaker wedge in funky metallics in their spring 2013 ready-to-wear show.
