STYLE GURU BIO: Amara Giersch

Style Guru Bio

Hello and happy 2013, guys and gals! My name is Amara Giersch and I’m a small town girl born and raised in the Heart of America—just call me “Dorothy.” I will soon be starting my second semester as a junior in Apparel Design and Journalism at Kansas State University—go cats! I adore sprinkled cupcakes, celebrity gossip, Saturday night football and Taylor Swift. My first love though, will always and forever be fashion.

For as long as I can remember, my biggest fashion inspiration has been my mother. She always encourages me to be creative and unique not only in the way that I dress, but as a person as well. Alongside my mother, I’ve always been completely intrigued by celebrity trendsetters, especially during my favorite time of the year—red carpet season. Something about the glamour, the glory and the gowns just excites me more than anything. I’ve also gained most of my fashion inspiration from peers I encounter on a daily basis. I love analyzing distinctive trends on campus and combining different looks into that of my own.

Since coming to college, some of my best inspiration comes from a particular individual I met my first semester of freshman year and fortunately for me, I now consider her to be one of my best friends. Although a few thousand miles now separate us, she continues to be one of my biggest peer influences not only through her success, but also through her unique personality and sense of style.

As an apparel design student, I have a true appreciation for designers who are able to portray looks of femininity through classic and timeless pieces. I also enjoy designers who are able to step away from what’s socially acceptable and create true art with their clothing. Some of my favorite designers include Elie Saab, Michael Kors and Alexander McQueen, to name a few.

In the future I hope to move somewhere in California after graduating from college to continue living my dream. Wherever life my take me though, I’ll always be only three heel clicks away from my true happy place–at home in Kansas. As for now though, I’m beyond excited to be starting my second consecutive semester as a Style Guru for K-State and even more excited to be part of such a fab new team of Fashionistas.
