ACCESSORIES REPORT: A Hair Affair

Accessories Report

Not only are hair accessories key for adding variety to your everyday 'dos, they’re also a great way to embellish your overall look. Until recently, headbands were considered to be a thing of the past but now that we’ve ditched the '80s workout bands and plaid patterns of the '90s, headbands are bigger than they’ve ever been; figuratively speaking, of course.

A headband is an accessory that's considered to be both functional and fashionable. Whether you’re looking for sporty, classy, causal or sassy, no matter what the occasion may be, there’s a headband for that. One of the most popular amongst campus women is the decorative stretch headband. These are generally made from various fabrics, or other materials, and decorated with gems, beads or a pattern of some sort. They will usually have a sort of casing over elastic on the bottom to allow stretching over the head. Another popular style is the training headband. They’re the perfect sporty look for those late night workout sessions. Although they're considered to be more functional than fashionable, you can still find them in various colors as well as sizes.

This Fashionista is rocking a hippie inspired look with her hair accessory. Rather than the traditional over-the-head headband, she's carefully styled her hair to emphasize the accessory that's worn horizontally across her forehead. A piece similar to this is the geo headpiece, which is also worn horizontally but has multiple bands around your head. The horizontal headband is a trend that's continued to grow over past seasons and is a great way to be successfully unique with your hair accessories.

Amongst these popular choices are the classic toothed headband, great for a more structured look, novelty headbands, which are mostly meant for special occasion outfits, a perfect accessory for this year's Halloween costume and last! And last, but certainly not least, the scarf headband. These scarves are tied at the bottom and formed as a headband on top. Some scarves are longer than others, leaving extra fabric to move with the natural flow of your hair for the ultimate effortless look; the type of effortless that actually still involves your normal amount of excessive effort.

Spotted: Louis Vuitton has incorporated a simple, classic headband with bow embellishments to his spring 2012 ready-to-wear collection.
