The chaos, also known as London Fashion Week, concluded, but not without leaving behind memorable outfits both inside and outside of the tents. During my short lunch break, I saw men in capes, people in head-to-toe camouflage, sweater suits and incredibly elaborate headdresses. Some of my favorite outfits, however, were more understated. There’s something off-putting about seeing someone trying incredibly hard to be photographed without any intention or invitation to enter any shows. This Fashionista instantly caught my eye amongst the sea of neon accessories and bright red lipstick.
Her take on all-black is a perfect medium between the timeless, classic black ensemble and the edgy, downtown black get-up. Her collar necklace is elegant and creates a focal point for the outfit. This is incredibly important when working with monochromatic outfits, as it is easy to get lost and simply see a blob of black if there is an absence of texture or accessories. The repetition of rhinestones throughout the outfit is amazing for creating texture, but also drawing attention to individual pieces. The rhinestone detailing on the shoulders of the coat draws attention to the structure and fit of the jacket. Similarly, the studs on the black, motorcycle boots are great for showcasing her choice of footwear, seemingly in opposition to the classic femininity of the rest of the outfit. Lastly, the subtlety of her makeup beautifully complements her outfit, as it does not detract attention away from the clothes, but is still sultry and alluring.
Outfits like these are why I still enjoy people-watching outside of the tents. While seeing the bright and crazy costumes and occasional celebrity is inevitably entertaining, it is the understated confidence of Fashionistas among the somewhat competitive atmosphere that is truly inspiring.
