When you walk onto the large Harvard-Westlake campus, you will find a pool, a huge football field, and many buildings connected by outdoor hallways filled with rows of lockers. The L.A. based school, specifically residing in the valley, is surrounded partly by a beautiful hilside, covered with different plants and completed with a fountain running through it.
Although Harvard-Westlake is very sports oriented, many of the girls keep a very close eye on what’s trending in the fashion world. Having a more preppy vibe, many girls at Harvard-Westlake take Gossip Girl fashion into consideration. They especially love Serena van Der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf’s style choices, like how they both added very unique touches to their school uniforms, like their headbands, capes, and chunky jewelry. At Harvard-Westlake, you will see many high-wasted uniform-like skirts and tights, collars, lace-up and buckled boots, cardigans, and scarfs. The four high school students that I interviewed all have a knack for fashion, sports, and the arts. Their go-to shops are places with a wide range of styles, like Topshop, Rag & Bone, Acne, Brandy Melville, and Marc Jacobs. Each of the girls takes part in the school’s Cheerleading program, and at least one art.
“My style is simple, preppy, and a little bit boho. I love to add a denim button down to any outfit- it matches everything and it’s super trendy right now. I absolutely love Blake Lively’s clothes!”
–Julia Safir, 10th grade, Singer, Dancer, Actress, and Piano Player.
“I’m loving the collar trend right now, especially the ones that are different, like this embellished one. I pair fun tops like this one with other simple things, like jeans and boots. I love Alexa Chung’s style.”
– Brie Cooper, 10th grade, Actress, Artist, and Surfer.
“My style is preppy yet glamorous. I like to add a ‘wow’ piece to each outfit, like this leopard scarf. Also, I like to pair leather jackets with simple skirts, because the harshness of the leather becomes subdued by the skirt’s girly and sweetness.”
-Camelia Somers, 11th grade, Singer, Dancer, and Actress.
“I keep it super simple. I love wearing solids- because each piece stands out for itself. I love cropped sweaters with high-wasted skirts. Adding tights and a scarf make for a wintery and cute outfit, that is very wearable for multiple occasions.”
-Taylor Cooper, 12th grade, Dancer.
