FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT: Sarah Jackson

Fashionista Spotlight

Many students tend to dress down terribly on gloomy days, but not this Fashionista. Although Fashionistas have their off-days too, that doesn’t give them an excuse to get into sweatpants or hoodies. This Fashionista’s outfit serves as a great example of how to dress casually without looking shabby. She looks comfortable but her look still has elements of great style. The infinity scarf, utility jacket and oxford shoes are all major fashion trends, but the way she styles them with a loose T-shirt and basic leggings gives off a laid back effortless look.

Name: Sarah Jackson

Major: History

Year: Sophmore

CollegeFashionista: What is your personal style?

Sarah Jackson: Casual and comfortable. I always try to throw in a bit of vintage in there to spice things up.

CF: Where do you get your style inspiration?

SJ: I often visit Tumblr for street style inspiration. I also find fashion from Japan very interesting. Those girls always have really cool stuff.

CF: Your latest spring purchase?

SJ: I got a lilac lipstick recently. It would go well with the current pastel trend for spring.

CF: Confession time! Tell us about a fashion crime you once committed.

SJ: I used to wear these gross moccasins to school. They were torn and had holes in them but I still wore them.

CF: Did you throw them away then?

SJ: No. I still have them.

CF: What is your favorite item in your wardrobe?

SJ: I bought a cool Hawaiian print, red button-up shirt from Buffalo Exchange. It’s cropped and I can knot it in the front. Can’t wait to wear it for spring.

How To: Utility jackets have become quite a fashion staple since they got popular last year. There are many variations of a utility jacket in the market these days, and this drawstring utility jacket from Forever 21 is a perfect spring jacket because it's lightweight and breezy. Opt for patterned oxfords to add a pop of color or texture to a plain outfit. Scarves add an instant chic element to your look but make sure to avoid bulky infinity scarves for spring. Express has a range of lightweight shimmering infinity scarves that can be worn from day to night.
