I have worked as a seasonal salesperson at B.P. Nordstrom for a year, and one of the ways we try to get customers excited about styles is by organizing the product into two “themes” which mirror current trends. Last summer, we featured one of my favorite themes around the time that the first fall product came in. It was sort of an urban glam style that highlighted pieces such as worn-in chambray shirts, flannels, coated skinny jeans, distressed scarves,\ and faux leather accents. I admired this style and, although I could not personally pull it off, I encouraged customers to add plenty of urban glam pieces to their fall wardrobe. In a way, it was like I was living vicariously through my customers. Luckily, being a Style Guru allows me to continue observing other Fashionistas pulling off the looks I find the trickiest.
An excellent example of one such Fashionista caught my eye with her trendy urban glam scarf and excellent taste in boots. The distressed olive green scarf she picked to go with her cold-shoulder sweater, leggings, and Tory Burch riding boots adds an element of urban style that makes her ensemble stand out in a sea of sweaters and leggings strutting around campus.
Fortunately, Los Angeles is a fantastic place to rock all of the urban glam looks in your closet this fall. However, if you’re like me, and feel like you can’t work an all-out urban-chic ensemble, take a page out of this Fashionista’s book and try complementing a cozy, casual fall look with an accessory inspired by fabulous urban style.
I know that when it comes to having a hard time with certain styles, I am not alone. One of the best alternatives to arranging an entire ensemble composed of these styles is to incorporate one trendy piece into your go-to fall looks. By doing this, you can rock all of the trends you admire from afar without feeling uncomfortable or out of your element. The best part is: if you incorporate these pieces one by one, eventually you will have yourself an outfit totally immersed in your favorite tricky trends. In my case, finding the perfect chambray shirt, faux leather-paneled leggings and combat boots gave me the opportunity to slowly grow into the urban glam look I had always admired.
I hope all you Fashionistas out there can be bold and try adding some stylish pieces you never thought you could wear into your closet this fall!
