It’s always refreshing to see some bold, fearless fashion around campus. When I passed by this Fashionista on the quad, I could automatically picture her as the sixth student in The Breakfast Club. This outfit screams the 1980s in such a great way. This, Fashionistas and Fashionistos, is how you pull off an ’80s inspired look for the 21st Century. I was drawn to her big, colorful accessories and what I love about this Fashionista is that she snagged most of them from thrift shops and yard sales! This is such a great way to create truly unique looks.
This Fashionista’s striped dress is a great focal point for the rest of her outfit. The dress is sleeveless and high-waist and creates a flattering look. The fun colors are perfect for pairing the outfit with colorful accessories. She found this dress at H&M, but you can find a similar striped dress at Forever 21. She paired this dress with a pair of tan ankle boots from Rugged Warehouse. Just the dress and boots alone would make a great outfit for a hot day. You can pick up a great pair of ankle boots from J.C. Penney.
Her metallic leather jacket was a fabulous find from Goodwill. Metallic accessories are becoming more and more popular around campus and on the runway. Dress them up or keep it casual, you’ll always be making a bright statement. This similar metallic jacket from Forever 21 would look great with some bold accessories.
Back in the ’80s, bold was beautiful, and her accessories are just that. She color-coordinated her chunky, beaded bracelet and thick, hoop earrings with the colors in her dress, which really makes a fun, bold statement. She found her blue bracelet from a thrift shop, but check out this black beaded bracelet from Target.
Bright hoop earrings were all the rage in the ’80s and this Fashionista found an awesome pair with a 21st Century touch. If you look closely, her turquoise hoop earrings have a girly floral design on them. She also found these at a yard sale, but you can find some fun, glittery hoops at Target.
Spotted: Take a look at this metallic jacket from the spring 2013 ready-to-wear collection by Milly. This look is the perfect blend of casual and chic.
