ALL ABOUT BEAUTY: Laying the Foundation

All About Beauty

If there are a couple things you should know about me, it's that I'm drawn to intricate patterns, long sleeves (especially chiffon sleeves with shoulder pads), mandarin collars and overly structured everything else. On my usual walks to class, I can usually find one or two Fashionista's that truly stand out from the crowd—and when they're featuring one of those characteristics I mentioned, you'll be sure to see me rushing over to snap a picture!

This week was no exception. I spotted this Fashionista from a mile away with her amazing printed dress outshining everyone around her. Her gorgeous leather bag and strappy sandals were the simplest yet perfect matches to tie her tribal look in together. In the midst of her bag, she explained that she was also carrying a pair of heels to switch up her outfit later on. Does that sound like any of you out there? I know I'm that one friend in the group that has about ten lipsticks in my purse, travel-size perfumes, a sewing kit and a couple pairs of shoes in my car for fashion emergencies. You never know when you'll need to switch up your look.

This goes for makeup as well! Many of you lead busy lives juggling three to five classes, work, internships and a little bit of a social life in between. For the easiest day to night makeover, it's important to find the right foundation to really hold it all together while being as light as possible. For those that are still trying to find the perfect foundation, your first question should be: liquid or powder foundation? And even before that, ask yourself: normal, oily or dry skin?

If you're graced with normal skin, the decision is really up to you. If your skin is already pretty clear, covering up your face in layers of foundation shouldn't be an option. Instead, highlight your face with a light blush or mineral highlighter like Physicians Formula Powder Palette (seriously the best stuff in the world). It gives you a nice glow while giving you a smooth and even complexion.

If you have oily skin, loose powders like bareMinerals will absorb excess oil and give you a more matte finish. They tend to be healthier as they don't clog up your pores and have SPF15 for a little extra protection. If you have dry skin however, you should stay away from powders as they will emphasize dryness. Lancôme's Teint Miracle “Lit-from-Within” liquid foundation gives you great coverage while still being extremely light. It's also super nourishing, giving you 18 hours of smooth, hydrated skin. With a great foundation now in place, you're ready to change your makeup as you change your day!
