Today’s Fashionista has inspired me to discuss a beauty product that I hardly ever talk about: highlighter. She loves Bobbi Brown’s Shimmer Brick because it gives her a natural glow for work and class. For going out, she layers it over a pinkish-red blush for extra dimension.
If you’ve never used highlighter before, Glamour beauty writer Beth Shapouri has some tips about proper application. She says to dust the shimmer in places that naturally catch the light: along the cheekbones, down the center of your nose, on your brow bone, in the inner corner of your eyes and right in the dip of your cupid’s bow (the double curve of your upper lip). She also recommends applying it along the high point of your collarbone to add a sexy sheen when wearing a strapless dress. In other words, that snazzy little number you’ve been saving for your New Year’s party is the perfect opportunity to sweep on some highlighter. What better time to shine than at a festive party?!
For everyday usage, I like to use a bit of off-white, shimmery powder on the inner corner of my eyes and underneath my eyebrows. It’s a quick extra step that really brightens up my face. An easy way to highlight the eyes is by using a pencil like this one by Benefit. For an all-over highlighter you can also check out Nars’ highlighting blush, which comes in a few different shades. Use the powder sparingly because a little shimmer goes a long way.
