ALL ABOUT BEAUTY: Finals Fashion

All About Beauty

You know those scenes in reality T.V. shows where a girl is crying and all of her eye makeup starts dripping down her face and ends up looking like an awful raccoon eye? That is one of my biggest fears. Not because I cry a lot, but just because it looks so very awkward. There is no way to play that off. Even worse, what if you’re attacked by a torrential rainstorm and then you look like you’ve been crying and are miserable. No way, Jose, I’m not playing that game. This is why I stick to waterproof makeup at all times. Especially in the bipolar Philadelphia weather, I’m not taking the chance of looking like a melancholy raccoon.

When I spotted this Fashionista it was unbelievably gray and gloomy outside, which mirrored the mood of the campus extremely well. Finals week is upon us at dear old Penn, and everyone is miserable. It’s the time of year where you must figure out a way to combine being comfortable, so you can study for hours, and presentable, so you don’t look like you just rolled out of bed and went to the library. Oftentimes that goal is not accomplished. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to study in my pajamas during Finals week. Some of my friends have actually come up to me and asked me if I’m okay, because it is one of the few times in the year that I truly look like I’ve given up on how I look. This Fashionista, however, was mastering the perfect balance between comfortable and cute. She was sporting a warm white chunky-knit sweater over a black long-sleeved shirt and leggings, and accessorized her outfit with brown combat boots and a tribal print scarf. It was the perfect studying oufit: warm enough that you are not freezing in the ice-box called the library, and cute enough that you don’t look like a hobo on the side of the street.

What this Fashionista and I really connected on, though, was her makeup. I asked her what her favorite beauty secret is, and she quickly replied- waterproof mascara. I think I found my soulmate. I think my absolute favorite waterproof mascara is the DiorShow Blackout which is a high intensity black color that provides awesome volume to your lashes. Or if you prefer something a little less expensive, stick with Covergirl’s Lash Blast Fusion Water Resistant mascara.

Finals are a difficult time. You never know when you might randomly start crying over a really difficult class. Stick with waterproof mascara and you’ll never have to worry about the devastating raccoon eye.
