If you've taken any art classes before, you know that the best still lifes are those that have a strong, structural foundation with a combination of energy and line quality. Same goes for self portraits and drawings of people in general. Beneath our makeup, skin terrain, tissue and veins we all have a common framework that makeup artists try to bring out ever-so-delicately. Of all the facial features, the most prominent and naturally striking (also helpful in portraiture!) are the eyebrows.
Long, thick and dark eyebrows are no strangers to the runway. We've seen them time and time again, and now for Spring 2013 from designers like Alexandre Herchcovitch, Timo Weiland, Thakoon and Marc Jacobs. It's the reason so many people are opting for less eyebrow waxes and threading and welcoming all natural brows. This Fashionista shows her love for brows by keeping her makeup minimal. Her dark eyebrows act as a focal point for her face, highlighting her smudged eyeliner and dark, curly hair adorned by her beret. The rest of her look is casual with dark pants, a complementing plum top and denim jacket with cute thrifted pins.
For brows that wow, gather some inspiration first! Are your eyebrows as naturally feathered as model Ruby Jean Wilson's or Björk's? If they are, lucky you! If not, there are plenty of ways to shape your eyebrows without plucking like crazy. Calmly put the tweezers down and follow my advice. For naturally thin or barely there brows, achieving fullness can easily be done with any brow pencil or eyeshadow. Simply pick a color as close to your eyebrow color (not always the same color as your hair) and fill them in, gently grooming them when finished. I personally recommend eyeshadow as it looks more natural in the light. Avoid simply outlining them or creating the '90s thin, “permanently surprised” arch that still haunts every adult's life. Modern, fashion-forward eyebrows are all about fullness but are not overly arched. In fact, they're almost straight!
As another option, give Make Up For Ever's Aqua Brow a try. It's a waterproof gel that not only sets your eyebrows, but fills them with color too. Lastly, remember that you can grow the eyebrows of your dreams with patience and time! Anastasia Beverly Hill's Brow Enhancing Serum is a great way to nourish and protect your brows and to ultimately grow longer, thicker brows. Do yourself a favor: keep your tweezers very far out of reach and hide those super magnified mirrors — they'll do your eyebrows wonders!
