ALL ABOUT BEAUTY: Beach Waves

All About Beauty

For college students on the best coast (in more formal circles known as the west coast) late fall isn’t a time filled with panic due to the need to find the perfect winter coat that isn’t too bulky but is also warm. We don’t really have to stock up on thick scarves or thermal gloves because our temperatures barley dip below 75 degrees. Thanks to Mother Nature, Fashionistas all over Cali can keep that endless summer going by pairing our new fall coats and cardigans over our summer favorites.

This Fashionista’s outfit is a perfect example of what to wear during the start of the “winter” months in SoCal. Her dark wash denim shorts, white sneakers, sheer cotton tank and long blonde tresses are the epitome of summer cool. But paired with the cream cropped jacket, this Fashionista can stay warm when walking across the quad when the wind suddenly hits or in a classroom where the air conditioner has yet to be turned off. Her vintage-inspired sunnies and minimalist rings are great accessories to a simple yet chic outfit. To get her look pick out your favorite summer outfit and pair it with a fall jacket like this River Island cream colored faux fur bomber jacket.

Unfortunately, we can’t all have this Fashionsta's wavy blonde hair, but with a few good products, we can mimic the beach hair look. To emulate surfer girls and Victoria Secret models try using Bumble and Bumble’s surfer spray. This is a salt-water based spray that will give your hair full volume, and that gorgeous windblown look that seems only achievable after spending all day in the ocean waves. For anyone with a wild mane, make sure to tame it using a good de-frizzing cream. You can use Bumble and Bumble’s defrizz product that makes fly-aways and frizz disappear. Girls with thick or curly hair can try Ouidad’s climate control heat & humidity gel to stop the dreaded frizz from even making an appearance. So even if you don’t have a beach near you, these products can at least help you to pretend that you do.

ALL ABOUT BEAUTY: Beach Waves

All About Beauty

Just because school is back in session does not mean that you have to stop dreaming about being at the beach. This week's Fashionista is sporting a beach look with her hair, which gives the appearance that she has spent the day on the coast.  Her hair is relaxed and has a lot of flow.  If you do not know how to style your hair this way, don't worry. There are very easy ways to get this look. Not only is this hairstyle trending on campus, it can be seen in Hollywood as well. This wavy do is Lauren Conrad’s go-to hairstyle. Many people choose this wavy hairstyle in the morning because of how simple it is to do. And, how cute it is the end result?

This Fashionista’s beach dream does not end with her hair, her loose fitting shirt also flows — perfect for the scorching hot days on campus. However, pay attention to the print on her blouse; the colors resemble a beautiful sunset over the ocean. The leopard print on her top is a perfect transition into the fall because black and dark brown are colors that we will see this season.

Also, this fall, we will see colored denim everywhere! This Fashionista chose the perfect shade of teal because it is subtler than other colors and prints that can be seen on the runway. Since teal is also a cheerful color,  I guarantee you put a pair of these on when you are feeling down, and your mood will instantly be brightened! If you are not sure on how to wear colored denim, just remember it always looks super classy with a basic white T-shirt. You could pull the whole ensemble together by wearing a long necklace as well. Today's Fashionista pulled her outfit together by choosing to wear dark purple sandals, the same hue seen in her top, and a feminine pair of gold hoops. She also chose a hazelnut colored bag — another color trend we see this fall.

Don't just let the days of summer fizzle out! Try keeping a little bit of the summer spirit all year long with beachy waves.

ALL ABOUT BEAUTY: Beach Waves

All About Beauty

When I first saw this Fashionista walk by me in Toronto’s Forest Hill Village, I was immediately struck by her overall stylish appearance. Upon closer examination, however, I realized that her hair looked like she had just come from the beach, with her perfectly carefree waves. Since I found her in the heart of the city, ridiculously far from the closest beach, I was even more intrigued by her beautiful beachy hair. Luckily, this Fashionista was kind enough to share her very simple secret with me. If you want to try this look there are only two incredibly easy steps: step one is to put your hair in braids after you get out of the shower while it is still wet. Step two is to sleep with your hair in the braids. TWhen you wake up in the morning your hair will be dry and when you take out the braids you will have perfect beach waves. If your hair doesn’t hold waves so well, try using some spray after you take out the braids.

In addition to this Fashionista’s summery hair-do, I also love her straw boater hat. This style of hat could not be more appropriately named. As boats are to ocean waves, boater hats are to the beach wave hairstyle. The two complement each other perfectly. The light color and straw material are so summery and make it the perfect hat to shade your face from the hot sun at the beach. Her waves look so good coming out under the hat’s brim. If you have been looking for a boater hat like this to wear with your beach waves this summer, check out this fun version featured on The Zoe Report by Juicy Couture
