ALL IN THE DETAILS: Wild Green Velvet

March 29th, 2016 at 2:07am

You know those people who demand attention as soon as they step through the doors? The head-turners. The attention-getters. The people who don’t need a spotlight because they are the spotlight. I think you get it. Well, I met a Fashionista who is one of those people and that’s exactly why I had to feature her.

Aside from how she was able to strut around campus in those heels, what made her so photoshoot-worthy was how she made different patterns and textiles work cohesively together in one ensemble. While the leopard print skirt, snakeskin shoulder bag and leather thigh-high boots give an edgy, wild vibe, her green velvet shirt softens and balances the entire look.

Besides the texture and luster of velvet, the beauty of it also lies within how seasonless the fabric is. You can rock a velvet dress in the fall or winter, then turn around and wear a velvet top during spring. It’s soft, durable and as you can see here, very stylish.

“I wanted to go for a modern day Clueless look,” she said. “You know, like a touch of the ’90s mixed with modern fashion.”

And the cost of it all?

“This entire outfit is less than $80,” she said, smiling. “I’m actually in the middle of creating a vlog called Bargain Slayer to start sharing my outfits, where I bought them and how to bargain shop because I’m a big thrifter. It’s just something I love to do.”

I’m not sure if you’ll see any cute velvet clothing while shopping any time soon, but if you do, then snag it before someone else does. It’s must-have in your wardrobe, if you want to set yourself apart from others and shine bright (literally).

How To: You can recreate this look by matching your favorite velvet shirt with a skirt of your choice. Pair a red mock velvet top with a geometric patterned bodycon skirt, A-line skirt or maxi skirt. The possibilities are endless! Add a pair of thigh-high, knee-high or ankle boots and you’re ready to step out on the scene looking as fierce as ever.
