ALL IN THE DETAILS: Vested and Invested

December 1st, 2015 at 2:00am

With November upon us, it’s time to break out your fall fashion items: the perfect pea coats, riding boots and fuzzy sweaters. However, if you’re reading this from my neck of the woods, like that last question on your exam, you’ve guessed wrong. Instead of brisk days, it’s all too warm and that pea coat has you sitting down next to that cute guy in the third row all sweated up . Don’t worry if you are as confused on how to dress for this new fall foliage, you have a Fashionista on the ready.

I’ve got four words for you; invest in the vest. There is no need to buy a new wardrobe for this odd weather; instead, it’s all about changing the details of an old outfit. Let me tell you how.

For those days when you have an 8:00 a.m. exam and just woke up at the library, rock your athletic pants and long sleeve with a vest, giving that cozy outfit a polished look. If you’re going to lunch and it’s too warm for a jacket, but you want more than a cardigan for your dress, dress with the vest. If you are just out and about for the day, layer up with a sweater, flannel or chambray shirt and, of course, a vest with your favorite jeans and riding boots.

You can easily take it to the next level with a splash of accessories, your favorite scarf or my go to statement necklace. Not only are vests practical for this unseasonably warm weather, they also add an effortless cool to any outfit. So if you’re feeling a little board with the outfit, chances are a vest is the perfect added detail.

This Fashionista completes her ensemble, with dark jeans, a light sweater and a casual canvas vest. A simple three-piece outfit that is good enough for any runway chic, but most likely a stride of pride down your campus.

How To: Enhance any outfit with a vest for a perfect fall weather compromise. You’re not only outsmarting mother nature, but also looking fabulous while doing it.
