ALL IN THE DETAILS: Tribal Jewelry

I’m all for neutrals. In fact, if neutral colors had a fan club, I’d be the president. Dig through my closet and you’ll find mostly black, white and gray with a few flashes of blues and light pinks. Bright colors are not my forte, and the amount of times I have ever tried color blocking equates to zero. It’s not that I don’t love color, because I do, but a closet full of neutrals is just easier to work with. Everything in my closet goes together, so it doesn’t take much for my foggy, over-caffeinated, over-studied brain to put together a good outfit.

Whenever I see someone wearing bright colors, my attention is immediately grabbed. There’s something about the way that the right vivid colors accentuate people’s best features, like their bright eyes or their delicate collarbones. When I saw this Fashionista, I knew I had to ask her for some photos.

The bright shade of green of her dress makes her skin glow. It looks like such a happy color, perfectly suited for such a cheery girl. The no-sleeve style keeps her cool, and the flowy quality of the dress allows it to move with the wind. What is even better than the dress, however, are her accessories.

While her dress is a very vivid color, there is no design, so it ends up being somewhat of a blank canvas to work with. She layered multiple necklaces of different lengths and thicknesses around her neck. She also layered multiple cuffs only on one arm, which looks so effortless. She wore a vintage-looking ring on her opposite hand and finished off the look with simple, delicate diamond earrings.

I love how she pulled her hair up to show off her necklaces. Pulling your hair into a messy bun is so easy and quick, yet it looks so bouncy and chic. She kept her makeup light, letting her skin breathe in the humidity. Perfectly groomed brows, a light application of cream blush on the apples of her cheeks and a tinted lip balm are these Fashionista’s go-tos.

How To: Layer necklaces of different lengths and thicknesses to avoid looking bulky and messy. Different textures, like beads and leather, add a lot of visual interest.
