ALL IN THE DETAILS: Torn Up

Lately, people have been sporting chokers, ripped jeans and dark lips. It’s reminiscent of the grunge fashion of the ’90s. The simplest way to achieve a grunge-inspired look is to find a pair of dark distressed jeans. Black jeans are a staple for me. Whether you’re dressing casual or more fashion-forward, ripped black jeans can always make your outfit look edgy.

This Fashionista paired her ripped black jeans with a cozy purple sweater. One thing I really liked about how this Fashionista styled her outfit was that she picked a somewhat sheer sweater so that you could see the detailing of her bralette. If you are going to wear a bralette like this, you want to show it off! To add some more detail to her outfit, this Fashionista layered on bangles, bracelets and a simple heart necklace.

How To: Creating your own grunge-inspired look is fairly easy. Most stores carry a variety of ripped and distressed jeans. But if you’re on a budget, you can create your own pair of ripped jeans for only a few dollars! My tip is to go to a thrift store such as Goodwill or the Salvation Army. First, find a pair of jeans you like, this should be the easy part, next you’ll just need scissors and any material like sandpaper. Before you start distressing your jeans, you’ll want to put them on and mark where you want your rips. Once that is done, you can start cutting spots where you want rips, take the sandpaper and rub it along any part of your fabric to create more distress. And just like that, you have your own pair of ripped jeans!
