One of my favorite elements in the fashion realm is the juxtaposition of texture in an outfit. This is especially visible in fashion magazines and more specifically in the autumn and winter issues. If you flip through any September issue, such as Vogue, Elle or InStyle for example, you might see images of models in long chiffon dress with a tweed jacket or a thick long overcoat. It’s this contrast of textures that I love so much. This week, I spotted a Fashionista mixing patterns, trends and textures.
This Fashionista plays with a couple of trends and incorporates some cute details into her look. Starting at the top, she has a lightweight blazer with a white polka-dot pattern. The blazer also has three-quarter sleeves with some scrunching on the sides for detail. This is a nice change from the popular hand rolled sleeves on blazers. She wears her blazer over a pink lace halter top and combines all of this with a black lace high-low skirt. This skirt is a piece that can be easily dressed up for a fancy night out or dressed down for a casual lunch with friends. To complete her look, this Fashionista wears black sandals with floral details and floral stud earrings. She successfully combines lace, polka-dot and floral!
How To: To obtain this Fashionista’s look, go over to Maurice’s for a lace top. If you do not have a high-low skirt yet, get one! It’s a nice change from the maxi skirt, and Forever 21 has a good basic one to get you started. Francesca’s carries tons of great jewelry and little studs just like today’s Fashionista’s. For footwear, Payless carries sandals almost identical to hers. As for the blazer, Forever 21 has a ton of great options.
