ALL IN THE DETAILS: The Number One School of Innovation

February 9th, 2017 at 2:06am

February is famously known for the holiday of the month, Valentine’s Day. It is a day that celebrates loved ones and showing them appreciation for everything they have done. However, in the fashion world, February is known for the debut of the upcoming fall collections in the big four fashion capitals of the world. Always staying a season ahead, the fashion world always has a way of surprising us with recycled trends as well as a new twist on the classic staples. During this fashion season is the perfect time to fall in love with fashion all over again.

There are three things about the chilly season that I consider are staples; scarves, plaid, and outerwear. What I particularly love about this look is the way those three elements come together so seamlessly. The plaid coat is an innovative twist on two classics and a common theme seen in some of the pre-fall collections. It is the perfect example how fashion trends and classics can be re-invented into different pieces. The infinity scarf is a symbolic accessory; it is a salute to the notion that fashion is continuous and trends will eventually be re-invented in innovative ways. It is also a practical use for the scarf, as us college students can be a little lazy. My favorite part would be the sunglasses; a great way to utilize a summer accessory for a different look. It reminds me of Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada and her use of sunglasses to give her style a bold flavor. Sunglasses add a flair of mystery to this Fashionista’s look and the idea of re-inventing uses for fashion articles becomes full circle.

The creative ways that designers and Fashionistas imagine different ways to wear classic staples and trends has to be the thing I love most about fashion. As icon Coco Chanel once said, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” This February, do not let your love be limited, find new styles and people to pour it out to.
