ALL IN THE DETAILS: The Mix-Up

If you are an avid reader of my articles, then you know how much I love statement pieces. I believe that every outfit needs a piece that turns heads, whether that be an amazing jacket, colorful shoes or something as simple as frilly socks.

When I spotted this Fashionista, I was in total awe of how she was able to mix so many statement pieces into one look! Staying on trend, she kept the foundation of the outfit all charcoal gray with a circle skirt, a baggy shirt and a leather jacket. She then added a green flannel, black heels with red frilly socks and, my favorite piece, the cheetah print clutch.

Typically, when this many bold pieces are in one outfit, it can become a bit overwhelming, but I think this Fashionista did a phenomenal job at not over-mixing. This look works because the colors are distributed proportionally throughout and she strutted through campus with a ton of confidence.

When I asked this Fashionista about her look, she said she just threw on a few random pieces because she was running late. She was actually surprised on how many compliments she was getting throughout the day. Don’t you just love when an outfit comes together effortlessly? Also, I don’t think her hair matching her socks was intentional, but it definitely worked out in her favor.

How To: When it comes to mixing prints and colors, be cognizant of the placement of the pieces. Try not to mix the same type of pattern like horizontal lines with vertical lines. Rather, try lines with polka dots. Also, don’t forget to be fearless!
