ALL IN THE DETAILS: The Element of Surprise

One of my favorite parts about spotting a Fashionista/o on campus is noticing all the details about their look that I couldn’t see before I approached them. Like this category states, I believe fashion really is all in the details and, boy, does this Fashionista have some RAD ones! I initially spotted her bright Kenzo pullover peeking out from under the black leather and shearling jacket, and was immediately drawn to the color. The solid gray sweatshirt gets an uber chic update with a bright blue and teal lion graphic, and orange stitching to spell out the brand’s logo. This is a perfect piece for class or running errands when paired with black distressed skinnies, and a fresh pair of adidas sneakers.

This Fashionista keeps her look streamlined with a dark pair of skinny jeans and a pair of maroon Dr. Marten loafers. I love the contrast of the skinnies with the chunkiness of the loafers, it gives the look a quirky vibe that totally works. Moving on to the jacket, I love the mix of shearling with anything, especially leather and denim. I think a shearling lining ups the coolness factor of the cracked leather, and gives the outfit a bit more texture.

When I asked to get a picture of the back of this Fashionista’s look, I nearly died and went to jacket heaven. The back of this piece is covered in white fur, with the word “overcome” spelled out in block letters at the top. I thought this unique aspect of the jacket added a welcomed element of surprise to the look. At first glance, the jacket is a simple, classic piece, but the fur backing truly takes it to a whole new level.

To top it all off, this Fashionista is rocking what very well might be the coolest backpack of all time. An orange leather knapsack takes the cake as the chicest way to tote your books around campus. The back of this stylish student’s look proves that the details of an outfit can be equally, if not more important than the main pieces.

How To: The key to imitating this Fashionista’s RAD look is to pick a statement piece with lots of texture, and a bit of a wow factor. I love the unexpected mashup of army/disco/graphic characteristics in this fun cropped jacket. Wear it with a slouchy white T-shirt and cut-offs for a playful vibe that will carry you into summer.
