ALL IN THE DETAILS: The Art of Textures

December 4th, 2015 at 2:00am

Winter is coming! Time to throw on a thick coat before the cold air blows you away!  Whenever the temperature drops, wardrobes go from bright colors to darker hues, like navy blue or jade green, and, of course, black. However, with everyone else on the street wearing all-black outfits, it can be a little bit difficult to stand out; but, this Fashionista makes it look effortless.

This warm winter coat will keep you from not freezing while looking stylish. Its oversize look is extremely comfortable and trendy. The intricate blend of white and black yarn creates a marble effect, and its texture adds more depth. This Fashionista pairs her texturized black coat with a vibrant purple scarf to bring a bit of color to her outfit. The brightness of the scarf creates a sharp contrast with the oversized coat. She then added a pair of wood carved earrings with some very elaborate details. Its simplicity and delicacy adds a feminine touch to her oversized silhouette. Lastly, she chose to wear a pair of brown boots with metal buckles that make the look come together.

If you are looking to dress warm this winter without compromising your style, an oversized coat like this one would be a great piece to have in your closet. It always looks super sleek and sophisticated, not to mention how great it is at keeping you warm, which is very important here in Brooklyn. Adding a scarf to your look can do wonders. This Fashionista elevated her look by pairing the soft drape of the scarf with the heavy coat, creating some more appeal. Her ensemble is subtly complex and effortlessly cool.

How To: If you are not familiar with different textures, try a faux fur coat, or something that feels slightly rough and heavy, and then pair that with something very delicate and soft to the touch, thus creating a contrast between textures. Don’t be afraid to try on different things, and own it!
