ALL IN THE DETAILS: Textures on Textures

November 21st, 2016 at 2:06am

Details. Yeah I said it, details: the difference between a “popped” and a “you tried” outfit. What one may think to be the most minute and insignificant details could potentially change the statement of an outfit for all the better. Details can mean a variety of different assets. For example; hair, color-play, textures, accessory choice or even personal adjustments to clothes such as rips, pins and patches. Regardless of your personal preference in detail, these minuscule accessories are extremely impactful to the finished outcome.

Let’s take this outfit for example, each element had it’s own role in creating the overall look. A trend that we see in this look is textures. The olive green polyester top was the perfect source of accent color for this look. Being that the shirt wasn’t your typical cotton material added an interesting dynamic to the look. This Fashionisto decided to play even more with textures by matching this top with a black raincoat. The combination of the two details added a pleasing aesthetic to the look. In addition to the texture-play for the top half of the outfit, the biker jeans complemented the look very well. Instead of using a plain pair of jeans, the biker detail gave the look a more edgy and stylish presence. Let’s not forget the Chelsea boots that completed the outfit. Wearing Chelsea boots as opposed to sneakers or a different type of shoe made it more mature and chic. The beaded black necklace and glasses put the icing on the cake for this look, making a loud fashion statement. Overall, this Fashionisto used small, yet significant details such as texture and accessories to take this simple look to another level.

Details are so important because every detail works cohesively to result in what your final appearance is. People notice the small differences of an outfit that will set you apart from another person that may have on a similar outfit as you. Small changes that you add to the look are what make you unique as a person, and that essentially is what fashion is all about. For example, this Fashionisto’s detail decision in wearing the polyester shirt completely transformed the look, it’s all about enhancing what look you already have with small details and adjustments.

The number one way to improve the quality of your outfit may be that watch, pair of sunglasses or distressed pair of jeans. No matter what you may choose, the smallest details constitute to your overall look. So remember, my fellow Fashionistos, the next time you go shopping—go for that weird texture or awkwardly cut jacket and don’t be afraid to be different because the devil is in the details!
