ALL IN THE DETAILS: Street Style Sneakers

July 8th, 2015 at 2:10am

Accessory trends, like much else in the fashion industry, come and go as quickly as the cars passing by on the street. Outlandish trends that are no longer in style can obviously never be worn in the light of day ever again, and are stuffed in the back corner of a drawer where all the other passé accessories are kept. Countless chunky belts and feathered earrings fill the dark abyss that is my drawer of passé accessories, dreaming of the day that they are no longer out of style. The only archaic accessories that make it out of the drawer and see the light of day once more are those that are either subtle enough to go unnoticed or are practical enough to be accepted as something normal.

Shoes, the ultimate accessory, have been facing a drastic style change in the past year. Style bloggers and celebrities alike are opting out of their four inch heels in exchange for the comforting support of a good pair of sneakers. The sneaker trend has even been donned on the streets of Paris, the capital of high-heeled femininity, during fashion week! Slowly but surely, as Miranda Priestly said, as everything in the fashion industry does, the trend trickled down from the runway, onto celebrities, into department stores and finally onto the feet of the masses.

From a practicality standpoint, this change in trend may be the best thing to ever happen to women devoted to fashion. Hundreds of pairs of feet will be rested and not feel the ache of a day spent in four-inch heels. Surely the comfort and style were two of the main pulls towards the sneaker trend for this hip Fashionista. Sneakers are perfect for long days at work during which you have to be on your feet all day; they can be worn with almost anything and now come in every color under the sun. Nike, New Balance and adidas have all hopped on the sneaker trend, coming out with sleek street style sneakers for all the Fashionistas out there. However, not all sneakers are created equal, and it may be best to stay away from actual running shoes or the large white sneakers that Tiger Woods has been donning recently.

This Fashionista adds a complete street style edge to her otherwise very cute outfit by wearing a pair of forest green New Balance sneakers. The sneakers contrast nicely with her navy blue dress, and her hat pulls the perfect amount of edge in.

How To: Although adding sneakers to a look may feel extremely casual, this current trend elevates the look to a really cool place and you shouldn’t be afraid to try it! Just make sure that the outfit is simple enough that adding a pair of sneakers pulls the look together and doesn’t distract from the overall outfit.
