ALL IN THE DETAILS: Roman Goddess

One of my favorite things about fashion is its ability to transform what was once a historical and outdated garment or accessory and give it new life. We’ve seen the sweeping effects of this phenomenon with styles like maxi dresses and gladiator sandals. Once a piece of footwear worn by Roman soldiers who were dressed to kill, gladiator sandals are also designed for those dressed to kill nowadays—dressed to kill the fashion game, that is.

This Bruin truly “slayed” the UCLA campus last week by sporting a fierce black pair of ankle gladiator sandals and a cozy midi sweater dress. I’m absolutely obsessed with the contrast going on in her outfit, between the understated sweater dress and bold strappy sandals. As I’m personally drawn to anything with a contrasting style, the ability of this particular Fashionista to pair both high and low items together was certainly not lost on me. A sophisticated and minimal dress is the ultimate complement to über trendy footwear. Pair these two with a leather clutch and you’re well on your way to fashion victory.

How To: Give a little edge to a plain sweater or midi dress by pairing it with one of spring’s most coveted sandal, the gladiator. While the weather stays on the cooler side, try out this floor length version. But if it’s starting to warm up in your neck of the woods, I would choose this mock neck sleeveless midi dress and experiment with its mod style. Maybe even put your hair up into a sleek high pony to really let your outfit do the talking.
