ALL IN THE DETAILS: Quaint and Cute (and Edgy Too)

I can be pretty indecisive when it comes to putting together my outfit in the morning (or sometimes even laying it out the night before, if I’m feeling ambitious). If you’re anything like me, you often have trouble deciding if you’re feeling punk and edgy, or sweet and old-fashioned or maybe you just want to dress for comfort that day. Well, I want to show you that you don’t have to sacrifice expressing one aspect of your personality for another! This Fashionista does a phenomenal job of blending multiple styles into one beautiful creation simply with a couple accessories and different details.

She first caught my eye with the centerpiece of her outfit–this quaint gray jumper. The plaid pattern and slight pleated detail on the skirt are elements well associated with the classic prep school uniform, but here they serve also to create structure within her outfit. She balances this structure with her loose-fitting tank top underneath the jumper, a testament to the importance of comfort and breeze when trudging through campus during the last, longest days of summer heat. The large black buttons vertically lining both sides of her hips and the suspender-like straps on her shoulders add a playful element to her ensemble as well.

My favorite part however, is the unique choker this Fashionista adorns around her neck. The black color instantly draws your attention, especially against the muted colors of her shirt and jumper. The gold detailing is the perfect subtle touch of glamour, especially since it matches the gold platform Teva sandals she’s sporting. I love that the choker loops into a cute yet simple bow, but still incorporates just enough element of edge to her outfit.

When you find yourself wanting to blend together multiple styles in a single outfit, be mindful of the typical clothing combinations you’d put together so you’ll quickly be able to visualize where you can switch it up. For example, if you usually pair those comfortable ripped boyfriend jeans with your old, worn-out Converse, try switching the Converse out with a pair of comfortable but elegant ballet flats. Combining seemingly opposite styles can often produce a new innovative style all together!
