I would say that hats are an underrated accessory, wouldn’t you? However, this week’s Fashionisto reminded me of one of my favorite hat styles that has been making a comeback recently—the cap.
For starters, the button-up in a faded pink or lilac color with gray designs is very chill. It really reminds me of something that you could have seen in the early ’90s—perhaps on one of the boys in Saved By The Bell. The fit is also something to pay attention to. Instead of being fitted, it is a little loose and hangs instead of hugs, which gives a laid back and beachy vibe.
The beige Levi Brand Jeans are a great touch! This is possibly one of my favorite parts of the outfit because it would’ve been easy to pair the top with denim, but the similarity in tones adds to the washed out and sun bleached look. Furthermore, the Vans with the colored socks that are showing just a bit complement the rest of the ensemble without taking away from any of it.
Last but not least, I want to focus on the cap. I decided that this was the most important detail. Now, let me explain. I think that hats have been a very touchy subject with our generation—especially for the male species. From the baseball hats with flat bills that were associated with hip hop culture to snapbacks being associated with, well to be honest, I’m not even sure who, hats have been a confusing accessory. Many Fashionistos have decided to stray away from hats of all kinds, altogether. However, rather recently, the classic cap has been making a comeback. It is the hat for boys who don’t like hats. This Fashionisto went with an awesome thrifted New York Yankees cap and decided to add some extra character to it by wearing it backwards!
How To: Caps are cool on both genders and look particularly amazing on anyone’s head. First off, check your parent’s closet for some hats. I bet you they have some caps laying around somewhere. If that doesn’t work out, check a thrift store. They’ve usually got loads of these babies. If all else fails, J.Crew, Urban Outfitters, American Apparel and many other brands have started carrying caps of all different kinds. After you’ve got one, play around with it. The great thing about this trend is that you can dress it up or down! You really have free range with it and you can’t go wrong. So keep your face protected from the sun while looking stylish and having fun!
