ALL IN THE DETAILS: Pride in Chi

On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court passed the law that same sex marriage was to be legal in all 50 American states. Two days later marked the 46th annual Gay Pride Parade in the city of Chicago, a crazy, colorful and a profoundly beautiful experience.

Rounding the corner of N Halsted Street and W Addison Street, we were met by a sky full of rainbow pride flags. Glittering arrays of both sound and color filled the air and seemed to seep into every crack and crevice lining Halsted. Flocks of people from all walks of life migrated to the parade to show their support. This right here is one of the best aspects regarding huge events like the Gay Pride Parade, the people watching. I love seeing the diversity in the way people wear their clothing, the way they represent themselves and the image they convey.

With every color under the sun being synonymous to gay pride and equality, a wild smorgasbord of clothing and imagination was a happy end result.

Whilst at the parade I spotted approximately 91 tutu skirts, 125 boa scarfs and too many speedos to keep track of. Among this mob of color was a fly looking Fashionisto sporting printed joggers and a matching T-shirt. Printed on this jumpsuit-esque outfit is pop culture’s beloved and newly iconic emojis. The contrast of the emoji’s color and vibrancy completely pops against an all-white background taking this look to a more eye-catching level. To keep his outfit from looking too casual, he paired it with Nike shoes, adding a flare of a sportswear inspired look to his outfit. Although this Fashionsito sported a dulled down version of typical gay pride fashion, he still managed to look like a proud supporter.

How To: Intrigued by this look and feeling a little inspired? I would suggest wearing a modern, clean-cut black jumpsuit or pantsuit and pairing it with adidas Originals sneakers to reflect a similar sporty look. Or if you’ve been meaning to try some heavily printed pieces, couple a printed button-down with cigarette pants and simple sneakers. Voila, look completed!
