Ah, summer. It’s that glorious part of the year during which clothing stores are filled with a flurry of bright colors and bold patterns. You can officially say goodbye to those dull, drab winter colors and say hello to those summery, eye-catching hues. It’s time to replace your skinny jeans, fuzzy sweaters and knit scarves with flowy sundresses, tank tops and strappy sandals.
Floridian summers are all about making a statement. While some may choose to do so by showing off their sun-kissed legs with Daisy Duke-style shorts, others take the more laid back route, as this Fashionista did. Sporting a pair of slouchy pants—a major fashion trend this summer—she nailed an effortlessly attention-grabbing look. In fact, it was enough to prompt me to compliment her outfit at the mall and then later hunt her down in the least creepy way possible to ask her to be the star of my post for this week. Although I typically opt for a plain white or black tank top with pants like these, this Fashionista’s choice of a crochet top has inspired me to experiment a bit more with my pairing options. Whether they are paisley, tie-dye, tribal, chevron or floral, these comfy pants are hard to resist because they give you the comfort of sweatpants while still making a chic fashion statement.
If you’re not the pants wearing type, there’s no need to worry because you can still get your daily dose of patterns with other options like shorts, maxi dresses, skirts and kimonos. The great thing about patterned pieces of clothing is that it’s fairly easy to choose what to wear with them. My advice is to keep it simple, Fashionista(o)s. Let the patterned item shine by choosing subdued pieces to go with it, such as a plain, loose shirt if you’re wearing patterned shorts or pants.
How To: Don’t be intimidated by bold patterns! Sometimes it’s fun to replace your go-to LBD with a patterned bodycon dress for a night out on the town. If you’re wearing an outfit similar to this Fashionista’s but are in need of a quick day-to-night transition, simply add a solid crop top, nude wedges and simple accessories, and get ready to turn some heads!
