ALL IN THE DETAILS: Plaid To Meet You

February 18th, 2016 at 2:06am

Greetings fellow Fashionistas/os! If you are on the East Coast, then you know that the winter in New York has been quite a mellow one. So, this post goes out to all those Fashionistos who are struggling to keep their look together in this mildly cold and somewhat enjoyable weather.

Regardless of whether you are a Fashionista or a Fashionisto, it is necessary to have statement pieces to bust out. These statement pieces make or break your wardrobe and are so fun to dress up and dress down. They allow you to test your creativity and really build truly amazing and eye-catching ensembles that are sometimes out of your comfort zone. And, stepping out of your comfort zone, especially when it comes to fashion, is a must. Statement pieces, for me, would include my pair of black, jean overalls, my snake print lace-up ballerina flats, and my over-studded gold and black leather ankle boots.

When talking about statement pieces, it is important to mention that if you currently do not own statement pieces in your wardrobe, you should NOT feel the need to immediately go out and buy a whole bunch of statement pieces at once. The “statement piece” section in your wardrobe takes time to build, and you can always add to it over time. So, I suggest starting small, say perhaps a bright necklace or maybe a bold pair of sunglasses. Then, throughout the course of your life you can build up this area of your closet to include a range of different pieces depending on your fashion style and current trends.

Speaking of trends, another point to let you all know is that you should not feel the need to splurge on your statement pieces. Often times, statement pieces are modeled and developed after recent runway trends, so they tend to be out there and very avante-garde. Since trends come and go like sneezes (#tbt to that Fergalicious lyric reference @Fergie), you should not spend loads of money on these statement pieces unless they are trends you plan on rocking for quite some time. Places like Forever 21 and Zara are always coming up with affordable versions of your favorite trends in order to allow you to keep up with all the hip designers without spending like Kim

This Fashionisto did an excellent job tailoring his winter look around this fabulous pair of wool-blend, dark plaid pants. He paired the bold piece with a classic white, button-down shirt and a thick, black leather belt with a simple gunmetal buckle. He topped the look off with a plain, black coat for warmth, ray-ban clubmaster sunnies for sun protection and black leather loafers with gold detailing for a little extra oomph. Notice that he paired the printed pants with very classic, simple pieces in order to focus the attention on the statement pants.

Keep warm Fashionistas/os, and good luck!

How To: Pair your statement pants with simple, basic pieces. Throw on your favorite sunnies and loafers and you are set!
