ALL IN THE DETAILS: Pick a Pattern

I don’t know about you, but every year when spring rolls around, I have the urge to go out and buy a completely new wardrobe full of bright colors and prints. Sadly, this is not realistic. However, if you’re looking for a fun change this spring, you don’t need an entirely new wardrobe. You can give your look a boost by simply incorporating a pattern. Patterned prints scream spring and if you feel like your outfit is missing something or if finals week has got you down, a fun pattern might be just what you need. Whether the sunshine has already got you in a great mood or you need a little pick me up, let your outfit reflect it and pick a pattern.

This Fashionista’s look is all about pattern. Florals, checkers and plaid are all great, but lately I’ve been drawn to polka-dots and it looks like this Fashionista has been too. She balances her polka-dot-inspired look perfectly, which is the key to pulling off any pattern. Try to strike this balance when putting together a similar look. This Fashionista chose a polka-dot blouse and brightly colored skinnies for a pop of color. To keep her look casual, she threw on a denim jacket, which is a must-have in any closet. Her polka-dot shoes are a perfect example of how to add more pattern without overdoing it. They’re patterned, but simple enough to be worn with other prints without becoming overwhelming.

How To: There’s no better time to play with pattern than spring. Incorporate your favorite print in a subtle way with a scarf or go all out and wear a printed dress. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns to create a look that is super unique!
