ALL IN THE DETAILS: Patterns At Play

June 9th, 2015 at 2:10am

It’s official. The week we’ve all been dreading has finally descended upon us. The only glimmer of hope we have, that light at the end of the tunnel, is knowing that summer is going to come any day now. I know that as soon as this week is over, I’ll be enjoying some much needed R&R post-finals.

For so many UCLA students who stay in the area once school lets out, these summer months are filled with warm, sunny days and impromptu trips to the beach. Spending the day at Santa Monica always calls for a relaxed outfit. Whether you’re riding bikes along the coast, playing arcade games at the pier or shopping along the promenade, you’ll want to live in breezy, bohemian pieces like these loose-fitting patterned pants and a light, summery crop top.

Although I spotted this Fashionista leaving a study session outside the library, she could have just as easily been catching the next bus westbound, far away from stacks of books and stale classrooms. During this stressful week of studying for exams, packing up and moving, it’s so tempting to throw on a T-shirt with leggings and call it a day. But with summer on the brain, all I want to do is dress as if there weren’t exams to take and papers to write. In anticipation, this Fashionista sported summer-ready prints while finishing up the last of her studies for the year. Who says you can’t have the best of both worlds?

In a monochromatic outfit, this Fashionista’s patterned pants are anything but “hippie.” They give off a polished sort of bohemian vibe, the type that’s perfect for a day of adventuring. With a structured cross-body bag slung over her shoulder, she looks put together enough for studying or exploring.

How To: Worried about wearing something that’s too trendy? Pulling off bold patterned pieces is seamless when you pair them with staple items from your own wardrobe to stay true to your personal style. Black and white in an outfit look so simple and understated, meaning anyone can pull it off!
