Summertime is all about the details. This is the time of year where accessories become the focal point, and colors come out to play with experimented prints. Long gone are the winter blues, replaced by East Coasters finally getting their recommended dose of Vitamin D. The streets are buzzing with excitement as pedestrians ready themselves for upcoming barbecues, beach parties and vacations. The winter jackets we once hid have finally been put away, and with this liberation, fashion is pushed to a whole new level.
This zigzag patterned jumpsuit had my heart skipping a beat as soon as I saw this fierce Fashionista. Patterns have been alive and well in the fashion industry for a few years now, but this look is anything but old school. The zigzag pattern on this jumpsuit is a nice change from the overused “chevron” pattern (which I still secretly love) and the bold color scheme is perfectly fresh and funky for the summer heat. The addition of an aqua colored Hollister Co. camisole brings out one of the more understated colors in this pattern as well and completes this stellar look.
Bold prints were a staple at this year’s spring 2014 fashion week. Christian Dior and Céline were among designers who presented this trend. Christian Dior’s models stomped down runways in vibrant floral prints, while Céline offered what Vogue described as a “vaguely African print.” In addition, Miu Miu did not disappoint as they revealed a fun grumpy cat print.
Since prints are already so busy, they need very minimal accessorizing. I loved how this Fashionista paired her printed jumpsuit with a pair of nude Enzo Angiolini sandals. The sandal had a nice silver detail, which was carried over into this Fashionista’s Forever 21 bracelet and ring. The simple accessorizing is the yin to the bold prints yang.
How To: Want to rock this look for yourself? Bold prints are great for both tops and bottoms. ASOS and Forever 21 offer awesome zebra print and floral print top options, while Love Culture and Macy’s offer animal print and African-inspired pant choices. Remember to pair your printed piece with neutrals! This will help to make your print really pop.
