ALL IN THE DETAILS: Over-The-Knee

The holiday season has officially come around again. For most, this is a time of mixed emotions from the craziness of holiday sales to reuniting with friends and family. I also think it’s fair to associate the holiday season with drop in temperatures. If we’re lucky, we get to enjoy all the lovely things that come with winter: sitting by the fire, drinking hot chocolate, building a snowman. Unfortunately, along with these pleasures, we also have to encounter icy roads, blizzards, and freezing temperatures. However, the chilly conditions just give us a reason to bundle up in our favorite coats, hats and boots.

This season, over-the-knee boots have been all the rage. Not just over-the-knee boots, but suede over-the-knee boots to be more specific. Suede has been a popular fabric all over the runways lately. Incorporating this soft fabric in any fall or winter outfit is a trending detail. Also, pairing the tall boots over pants adds extra insulation, which is ideal for the upcoming icy months.

This Fashionista rocked her suede, tall boots with marsala (a.k.a the Color of the Year), jeggings and a cozy sweater. She also threw on a statement necklace for a pop of sparkle to pull her outfit together. With the warm colors, cozy fabrics and wintery accessories her outfit is perfect for upcoming holiday festivities.

How To: The great thing about over-the-knee boots is that they are so versatile. However, they can be a little intimidating to first time wearers. If you’re feeling apprehensive, try them over pants. Keep the rest of your outfit simple and neutral. This way, the focus will be on your fabulous boots. This will also create the illusion of longer legs. For another look, pair the boots with a short dress. To keep things classy, make sure the dress has a loose fit, high neckline, sleeves, etc. You want there to be a thin sliver of skin between the boots and dress for a flirty look. This is also a great outfit for transitioning from fall to winter. If it’s too cold, you can always add on a pair of tights. Last but not least, wear a flat over-the-knee boot for a day look, and a heeled over-the-knee boot for a dressed up look.
