ALL IN THE DETAILS: Not So Basic

It’s interview season! As a college student, it is likely that you are a busy and professional individual. Students frequently have jobs, interviews and presentations, so knowing how to dress business casual is a necessity. This Fashionista that I spotted on campus was dressed fabulously for work, it was not quite business casual but this outfit could easily be turned into an interview ready ensemble.

The base of the outfit is all black everything but it’s the details of the outfit take it from basic to bomb. The black Nasty Gal top with the cutout makes the top more interesting. The silver choker necklace hidden under the choker of the top allowed the draping chains to be a delightful surprise. It was a chilly day out so the layering of the flannel under the Piper Boutique trench coat was both practical and trendy.

Recently the trend has veered toward wearing all black which makes matching and getting dressed easier. Dare to stray from the all-black trend by pairing fun pieces to add detail and flair to an outfit.

Whether heading to class, work or an interview you can make an all black outfit more interesting and eye-catching with some colorful details. When heading into an interview you want to look professional but memorable. The goal is selling yourself to the company and the way to do that is by being comfortable, professional and trendy but not too fashion-forward. Keep it simple with a shoe you have worn before that you know will not hurt. Make a checklist of all things you will need to bring with you. Stock your bag with anything you could possibly need such as a pen, a notebook, make-up for touching up, mints, stain remover and anything else you can think of.

When your closet is fully stocked with your favorite basics all you need is a couple go-to accessories like a statement necklace, a scarf or light jacket to make you stand out.
