ALL IN THE DETAILS: Mix And Match

Beep! Beep! What’s that sound? Oh, of course…it’s your alarm clock. Like every day, your alarm clock acts as a mechanical replacement for your mother who used to shout one, two and three times for you to get up and get ready for school. Like the good ol’ days, you ever so reluctantly crawl out of bed and open up your closet. You take one look at your clothes and think, “I have nothing to wear today.” or “My favorite pair of jeans is in the wash, and now my outfit is going to look horrible because nothing else is going to match this shirt.” If you’re anything like me, you have thought or uttered both of these statements. These phrases exist as a self-deprecating trap for Fashionistas, and we have all fallen victim to them at one time or another.

This Fashionista, who I spotted near the library, defies this very customary way of thinking. She takes pride in mixing and matching juxtaposing colors and prints since it makes each piece stand out. She knows that some people think it’s weird to combine a blue floral shirt with a pink coat, but she drums to her own beat and wears what makes her happy. I think this should be every Fashionista’s goal when deciding what to wear each day. In addition, to add a touch of sparkle, this Fashionista chose to wear a pair of topaz stud earrings that mesh with the colors of her floral shirt. What could be better?

How To: Comb through your closet to find pieces to mix and match. Don’t be afraid to experiment. In fact, you should embrace it.
