ALL IN THE DETAILS: Love It or Leaf It

Ditch those dated florals and get in gear as leaf motifs are taking over. Finally making their comeback, leaves are taking high fashion to a new level. Designers are weaving leaves not only into their textiles, but into overall concepts for their collections. During this season’s Fashion Week, tropical vibes were amply spread throughout resort wear. Elie Saab, however, took a different approach by incorporating his love of foliage into his delicate line of silk and sequined gowns. Leaves have truly become the go-to print for the summer.

From the ancient Greeks to tacky tourists in Tommy Bahama button-downs, leaves have come a long way. Ranging from bold and bright to subtle and sweet, leaves are raising the bar for any and every ensemble. Create an air of mystery in a jungle print bikini on a cruise to Cozumel, Mexico, ooze sophistication in a divine matched set on a night out with the girls or even jazz up your internship with a daring shirtdress. Whatever you choose, make sure to keep your outfit simple.

This Fashionista lives for leaves. Dressed in head to toe leaf motifs, she makes her mark in a crochet leaf print tank top. Subtly accenting her outfit with a leaf necklace, she complements the print of her tank top while lengthening her torso. Unafraid to mix silver and gold, she accessorizes with two silver rings and a gold necklace. Even her sandals sport leaf cutouts. She tops off her leafy look with a pair of pastel shorts, giving her outfit an extra pop of color.

How To: Keep your outfit as simple as possible. As the wise Pocahontas once indicated, “Let the leaves speak for themselves.” Too much detail can be an overwhelming eyesore.
