ALL IN THE DETAILS: Long Live Layering

Just as I was about to quote Hilary Duff in A Cinderella Story (“Waiting for you is like waiting for rain in this drought, useless and disappointing”), for the lack of rain in California, clouds covered the sky. Although grateful for the slight refreshment in a daunting draught, questions arose. Should I wear a jacket? Will it get hotter throughout the day? Are booties too winter-esque? These are all very good questions when a gloomy stretch gets in the way of spring.

Luckily enough, I spotted this Fashionista answering all those questions with the perfect look. Her layering capabilities are what caught my eye. She had a peach, cropped sweater on that reminded everyone it was still spring, regardless of the drizzle, and a gray tank top underneath. The acid-wash tank top not only kept her warm, but it was also key piece in her layering ensemble. Her outfit combines a simple pair of black jeans with suede gray booties. These pieces neutralize the look, having our eyes immediately go to the beautiful colored sweater. She also sprinkled dainty, silver accessories throughout her outfit for a feminine feel.

Being able to layer is essential on every Fashionistas/os list of skills. I find that layering not only protects me from the night chill, but it also recreates outfits I have worn before. A dress I have worn with a leather jacket can also be worn with a knit sweater giving it a completely different vibe.

How To: Is it chilly outside, but you don’t want to ruin your outfit? Consider layering! Keep the tank top and sweater on and add a jean jacket! Don’t worry if the sun starts to peek out throughout the day, you can always take the layers off.
