Black is the new black; it always has been and it always will be. There’s not a body type, hair color or season it doesn’t go with, which makes it the perfect base color for any outfit. Especially in the winter, it’s best to stick to neutrals and darker colors to correspond with the season, but that doesn’t mean you can’t add flair in other ways. By incorporating a jacket, leather accessories and a sassy pair of shoes, you can turn your outfit from drab to fab in no time.

This Fashionista began with a fitted pair of jeans and a solid black top, making it easy to pile on the winter layers. For her winter wear, she chose a cozy, sherpa lined denim jacket to contrast against the black and add a subtle pop of color. Then, to balance out the top half of her outfit, she threw on a simple gray knit beanie. These interchangeable winter pieces are easy to throw on and can be bought in a variety of colors so you can mix and match your outfits.

As for shoes, one of the biggest trends we see this winter is over-the-knee boots. They’re warm, comfortable and can make any outfit stand out. This Fashionista flaunts a pair of black Jeffrey Campbell lace-up boots to add boldness and attitude to her simple black ensemble.

Another trend we see making its comeback this season is the ’90s staple choker necklace. This Fashionista’s bolo tie wrap necklace combines a choker with a long necklace, effortlessly bringing together both new and old styles. Going off of her shoes and jewelry, she completes her look with a leather belt that has silver embellishments. Her belt ties together the silver pendant in her necklace and the black leather in her shoes perfectly which is complimenting her look.

How To: Always be sure to stick with a simple, black outfit so you can throw on any color jacket and beanie without having to worry about matching. Then to top it off, add in your favorite pair of neutral, knee-high boots to balance out your look.
