ALL IN THE DETAILS: Layering Black and White

Alexander Wang is known for his classic fashion basics, but his designs are anything but basic. Many of his pieces are simple with an interesting twist to the design such as a cutout, unique fabric choice or use of hardware. I am anxious to see how his personal designs have evolved since stepping down as creative director of Balenciaga back in October.

This Fashionista’s look reminds me of Wang’s overall aesthetic—urban and minimalistic. First off, the color black: every designer whose pieces are described as “off-duty model” will be all for embracing black in their fashion. Every person that loves fashion can’t argue against wearing the color. After all, who doesn’t look amazing in black?

The layering of the sweater and button-down by this Fashionista is the perfect example of a minimal yet chic “downtown” look. A crewneck sweater pairs perfectly with a collared shirt. Peek the shirt out from the bottom of the sweater to create the illusion of a longer torso.

To spice up the simple sweater and button-down combo, she added her favorite vintage gold watch and rain boots. The vintage jewelry brings the look together and makes it the perfect business-casual look, appropriate for a day at the office. Living in the snowy and rainy Northeast, there are constantly puddles on the streets during the winter. It can be difficult to find work-appropriate shoes that can combat the weather. This Fashionista’s boots are perfect because they look like leather ankle boots, yet they are actually winter-weather ready.

How To: Pair your favorite crewneck sweater with a collared button-down. Peak the collar out from the top and pull the shirt out under your sweater. You will be warm but also business casual for any professional setting you are thrown into.
