ALL IN THE DETAILS: Lady In Leather

Leather is traditionally used for belts, jackets and shoes, and it has come back to life in many new forms. The runways are scattered with leather trims and embellishments, leather dresses, leather skirts, leather pants, leather tops and everything in between. Whether faux or real, leather is everywhere. However, it is most commonly seen as faux, due to its greater affordability for ready-to-wear garments and the ever growing fast fashion market which includes stores such as H&M, Zara and Forever 21.

Dressing up in the winter can be tricky due to the fact that you do not want to freeze. You also want to look nice for whatever occasion there may be, no matter how much snow is on the ground. One simple solution is to choose the right fabric. A skirt made out of a warmer fabric such as tweed or wool, and in this Fashionista’s case, leather can make all of the difference. This Fashionista is sporting her black leather skirt, which has suede and zipper details, over a pair of black tights (or leggings, depending on how cold it is) with black booties. She tops off the look with a simple white sweater, which is embellished with mesh cutouts on the sleeves. She then completes her look with a statement necklace and a white beanie to add warmth. This Fashionista’s look is simple, but it is much more than the basic black and white ensemble due to the details and embellishments on her skirt and top. She did take off her coat for the photos, but a great outfit needs to be shown off, not hidden behind a winter jacket.

Leather comes in all different shapes and sizes. This Fashionista kept it cute, comfortable and warm. It is your job to find the leather garment with the style and silhouette that works best for you and your own personal fashion.

How To: Keep it simple. Let the leather skirt (or any leather garment you choose) be the star of the show. Pair the leather with basics garments, such as a sweater or jeans, and basic colors.
