ALL IN THE DETAILS: Lace It Up!

One of the hottest trends this summer has been the “Not Quite DIY.” Brand names are coming out with shirts and dresses that look like they could have been made at home, but they’re actually super chic and from the rack. This is perfect because it saves the not crafty-inclined, like myself, from spending hours looking through Pinterest tutorials and ultimately ruining every plain shirt that I own. Oh, and no sewing needed is always a plus.

The design of choice is a cut-out V shape in the front of a dress or shirt, and rope, faux suede or leather to lace it back together. They can be made with plain black shirt dresses, or even band T-shirts and the styling possibilities are endless. These pieces walk a middle ground of classy and casual, so they can be dressed up or down for any number of occasions.

I’ve been obsessed with this trend, so when I saw this Fashionista sporting her amazing T-shirt dress, I just had to snap a pic. Shirt dresses are flattering for this particular style trend because they are usually color-blocked and a bit boxy. Because of this, they give off a very laid back vibe and can be paired with booties or sandals for a shopping or beach day look. But when you add the deep V-neck and lace it up, it takes the outfit to a completely new level.

Our Fashionista went for an all-black look that is super flattering and perfect for her fair skin tone. The original neckline of the shirt was a crewneck, but because of the V and the length of the dress, she’s showing the perfect amount of skin for a cute summer day. She lengthened the look of her legs with short but heeled booties, which is perfect for a dress like this. As far as accessories, she had AH-mazing nails and eclectic rings for a boho-y finish, as well as a faux suede wrap-around choker that perfectly mimicked the style of the cord on her dress.

How To: Either make or find an amazing plain or vintage T-shirt complete with a large V down the front. Make sure to lace it up with some boho-tastic material, and pair with booties, a wrap around choker and a collection of your favorite rings. Don’t forget the mani!
