ALL IN THE DETAILS: Jazzified Jacket

Even though summer has finally made its debut, this does not mean that you need to keep your jackets in the back of your closet! This Fashionisto demonstrates what to wear with a unique patched denim jacket. This exclusive article of clothing is fashionable and practical.

The large patch on the back of his jacket reads “Mingus Ah Um Charles Mingus” and the artwork displayed on the patch is from Charles Mingus’s album. Charles Mingus was a virtuoso bass player, pianist, bandleader and composer for jazz music. The artwork on the back of the jacket was a component that really stood out to me when I decided to photograph this Fashionisto.

His red, white and black flannel correlates with the patch on his jacket. When wearing a flannel under a denim jacket, be sure to pull the sleeves out from under the jacket as this Fashionisto demonstrates. Keep the jacket unbuttoned to show the flannel underneath. It also looks better when the flannel is tucked in, to make for a well-pressed appearance and show off a stylish belt. When pairing denim on denim, it looks best when a lighter shade of denim is worn on top complemented with a darker shade of denim worn on bottom. This Fashionisto finished off his ensemble with a pair of dark beige moccasins to complete this urban style.

How To: Don’t know what to pair with that flannel or button-down shirt? No problem. A jean jacket is the perfect answer! Put it on over one of those options for an extra layer of warmth while adding an element of edge.
